Dr Trishala Lakhani is a dentist and TV presenter, with a unique investigative nature to explore incredibly important, relevant and current issues. Her first documentary, ‘Turkey Teeth: Bargain Smiles or Big Mistake?’ for BBC News, sparked a national conversation around the #TurkeyTeeth TikTok trend. The documentary did incredibly well, breaking viewing records, being the most watched documentary with audiences ages 16-34, last year. The success of the documentary led Trishala to be nominated for ‘Best Investigation of the Year’ at the AMAs and ‘Most Impactful Journalism’ at the BBC News Awards. Her outstanding performance led her to being shortlisted for ‘Debut Presenter’ at the New Voices Awards (Edinburgh TV Festival). Whilst filming the documentary, Trishala was working full-time in an oral cancer department and special care unit, which is a testament to her hard-working and empathetic nature which expands through both the medical and media industry. She has appeared as the dental expert on This Morning (ITV), BBC News, The Jeremy Vine show and many other media outlets providing expert dental advice and guidance to viewers on dental issues as well discussing the risk of cosmetic, health and beauty trends. Trishala is also an ambassador for ‘Stop Acid Attacks’ in India. Not only does she visit these inspiring survivors who have been victim of this heinous crime, but has also fundraised thousands of pounds, to facilitate re-building their livelihoods and providing them with the tools to do so. Her ongoing projects involve building cafés across India, which are entirely run by these incredible survivors. This is not only beneficial in re-building their confidence, but also allows them to pay for their medical bills and support their livelihoods. Additionally, these cafés provides a lifeline to integrate back within society, as unfortunately many of them have been outcasted due to the acid attack. Trishala’s previous charitable contributions have led her to win awards such as ‘Outstanding Contribution to Society’. Trishala’s medical expertise combined with her first-hand experience within the beauty industry, sparks her inquisitive nature and provides a unique perspective that is being utilised in several TV development projects. Her ability to connect with an audience from all backgrounds is reflected in her fun, versatile and adaptable personality. Furthermore, her distinctive charm allows her to tell stories in an informative, yet entertaining manner, which undoubtedly captivates her audience, and her work so far is testament to that.
